Sharp recently presented the smallest front-end module for the reception of 1-segment terrestrial digital television broadcasts. 1-segment digital terrestrial broadcasting will begin in March 2006 in Japan. These broadcasts will send content to mobile phones, PDAs and car navigation systems. Sharp's front-end module functions as a tuner in these applications to receive the broadcasting signals. Sharp projects mass production of the module to begin in October 2005, with a starting production volume of 700.000 per month.
